Final Reflection

When I began this course, I was initially a little nervous about learning new digital technology tools because I knew there are so many out there and I thought it would be challenging to learn so many new tools at once. I have tried many digital tools throughout my teaching career and am always looking for new ways to thoughtfully incorporate technology into my teaching. This course surprised me in that, even though there were many new digital tools that I had never used before taking this course, it wasn't as challenging as I though it would be to learn them in each module. I think a reason for this is because I was able to see the functionality of each tool and how I could use it in the classroom or library, so I was able to make connections between the tools and the many possibilities for its use in helping students.

I had never used tools such as ChatGPT before this course, and this ended up being a tool that excited me in its versatility. When creating the AI-assisted newsletter for module 3, I was encouraged by the inspiration that I had after creating my first few prompts for the newsletter and seeing what ChatGPT resulted with. Many ideas that were generated for the newsletter served as a springboard for my own further exploration of ideas and activities that could be occurring in a real school library, and it made me feel like I was collaborating with a colleague and bouncing ideas off each other.

For me, the most challenging aspect of this course was learning about the many podcast tools available and how to discern between which one to choose. I think podcasts are great ways to communicate information to others, and I hadn't previously thought much about incorporating podcasts into librarianship, however after discovering more educational podcasts I realized that there is so much to learn through podcasts. I didn't realize how many different podcast platforms there are for recording podcasts, so it was a little challenging to narrow down some options and differentiate between them all of the pros and cons of each. However, this process was helpful in teaching me about the different options available and what to look for when trying to find any digital tool to meet the user's needs.

I am excited about the new digital technology tools that I can now recommend to teachers and students when working together to enhance students engagement and understanding of content, and one of the tools that I explored in this course that I am very excited about is BookCreator. This stood out to me because of its versatility in how it can be used and its engaging formats. Students need to be able to see their work as important and valued, and creating a final product using a tool like BookCreator can be instrumental in allowing students a platform to express their creativity. Overall, I am thankful for the discoveries made during this course and the knowledge I have gained that I can share with others in order to enhance the learning experience for my students.
